ON-DEMAND: CANCELLATION OF REMOVAL

Evaluating extreme hardship in children ages 4-17 for parents’ cancellation of removal proceedings

Children are undoubtedly impacted by a parent’s forced removal from the United States. Research in the subject of family separations has revealed that these children are more prone to develop mood disorders, behavioral problems, and an array of negative consequences.

A psychological evaluation can be extremely helpful for the adjudicator to understand the psychological impact of a parent’s deportation on a child and the short-and long-term effects it can cause. In these cases, the opinion of a mental health expert is often a determining factor for granting a cancellation of removal.

Whether or not you have experience working with children and adolescents, this training will prepare you to be able to evaluate the potential negative effects of a family separation based on the child’s vulnerabilities, the family dynamics, and the circumstances surrounding the immigration proceedings.
